Mary Catherine Alvord

November 13, 1938 — December 5, 2024

St. Peters, Missouri

Mary Catherine Alvord (nee Bukovac) of St. Peters, MO, went home to our heavenly Father on Thursday, December 5th at the age of 86.

Beloved wife of the late Al Alvord and daughter of the late Matthew and Milka Bukovac; loving mother of Allen George Alvord, Nancy Catherine (Luke) Proctor, Paul Lloyd (Stacy) Alvord; cherished grandmother of Christina Ann Willey, Rebecca Lynn Willey, Joseph Sterling Willey, Abigail Adrien Alvord and Katelyn Lee Alvord; dear sister of Ann (Wayne) Evans, Matthew (Mary) Bukovac and sister-in-law of Norma Bukovac, David Alvord and Olivia Heitz; treasured aunt; and dear friend to many.

Mary was also preceded in death by her daughter Linda Ann Alvord, brother Frank Bukovac, brother-in-law Earl Heitz and nephews David Alvord and David Evans.

Mary cherished her marriage, her family, and her Catholic faith. She was born on November 13th, 1938, in Whiting Indiana and moved to St Louis in 1966 with Al, her two oldest children and loyalty to the Chicago Cubs.

Her children and grandchildren will forever treasure memories of baking Christmas cookies, coloring Easter Eggs, and spending time with mom/grandma who always showed unconditional love.

Mary was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church since 2005. After retiring from an office manager position, she accepted an offer to work in the church rectory saying, “If God drops a job in your lap, you shouldn’t turn it down.”

Mary was a long-time member of the Legion of Mary. She visited nursing homes to pray the rosary with residents. She loved her Wednesday morning prayer group.

Mary’s faith grew strong and deep through her love for Mary, the mother of Jesus, and through her devout belief of the True Prescence of Jesus in the Eucharist. When time took a toll on her physically, and she had to cut back on activities, she still attended mass multiple times a week and always made it to her holy hour in the adoration chapel.

Mary’s gifts were to always see the best in others, to offer encouraging words when they were most needed, and to give the best and most loving hugs. Memorials may be made in Mary’s name to Birthright of St. Charles 2125 Bluestone Dr, Saint Charles, MO 63303.
