Mary Ethel Hogarth of O’Fallon, Missouri passed away peacefully on October 4, 2020 at the age of 95 after a brief illness.
Mary was born on June 2, 1925 in Dewey, Oklahoma. In 1942, she married Harold P. Hogarth and remained married for 71 years. Upon her husband’s return from Europe after World War II, the couple settled in Downey, California to raise a family. Mary co-founded the Bell Gardens Boys & Girls Club, served as president of the Downey Women’s Club, was a member of local P.E.O. chapters, and served on the board of Downey Community Hospital. Mary and Harold moved to O’Fallon, Missouri in 1994 and quickly became active in the St. Charles County community by joining the local Rotary Club. In retirement, Mary enjoyed painting, traveling, entertaining, and driving her lavender 1981 Corvette.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harold P. Hogarth, her parents (Alvis and Nancy Harris), two sisters (Floy Neal and Ella Blackmon), and five brothers (Orville Harris, John Harris, Alfred Harris, James “Shorty” Harris, and Emmet Harris). She is survived by her three sons - Wayne (Jeri) Hogarth, Larry (Patricia) Hogarth, and Harold W.(Joan) Hogarth, six grandchildren (Jennifer Skibbey, Kevin Hogarth, Stacy Brock, Justin Hogarth, Brad Hogarth, and Morgan Popma), and seven great-grandchildren (Jarus Skibbey, Seth Brock, Avery Brock, Ellie Hogarth, Walker Hogarth, Parker Popma, and Rex Hogarth).
A viewing will be held at Baue Funeral Home in O’Fallon, Missouri (311 Wood St.) at 11 am on Saturday, October 10, 2020 with a memorial service to follow at 1pm. Her body will be laid to rest at a later date at Forest Lawn cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to PEO Chapter JY for Cottey College, 1000 W. Austin Blvd., Nevada, MO 64772.
