Mary Ann Huber
A cherished wife, mother and grandmother known for her servant’s heart and loving personality, left us on Monday, March 24th, 2025.
She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and inspiring selflessness. Mary Ann walked through life with a gentle strength, touching the lives of everyone she encountered with an unforgettable grace.
Mary Ann made the world’s best cinnamon rolls—yes, she accomplished many other things, but the quality of her cinnamon rolls cannot be understated. In the free time she rarely had, Mary Ann was fascinated by architecture so much so that even into her final months, she continued crafting blueprints, preparing to knock down walls, and dreaming of designing “the next new addition” to anything she could get her hands on. She lived to tell the stories of 4 wars, 25 Presidents and 8 Popes.
Mary Ann’s life began on January 6, 1934 in Newkirk, Oklahoma but was primarily raised as a farmer’s daughter throughout the fields of Illinois. She and her husband, William Huber, an Air Force veteran, were married on August 1, 1953. Bill passed away in September of 2008 after 55 years of marriage.
She received a degree as an RN from St. Mary’s College in O’Fallon in 1971. She was the definition of the Lord’s servant, who through her entire life, was dedicated to serving and loving others with her whole heart, mind and soul. She was a Sunday School Director and frequently led retreats for Assumption Catholic Church as well as several surrounding parishes. She served on the school board for St. Dominic High School and used her medical knowledge to teach EMT, CPR and First Aid classes. She received the Nurse of the Year award in 1998 and the 2015 Catholic Women's Award – Comforter/Nurturer as modeled by St. Mary Magdalen.
Most people know her for two of her incredible legacies she graciously gifted us with. She was the founder of Twin Oaks Senior Living which she started in 1981. Twin Oaks now has the opportunity to employ over 200 wonderful staff members and has provided Christ-centered care for over
2,600 seniors. Her spiritual journey will live on forever through her foundation of the Mary Queen of Peace Shrine which was dedicated in 1995. Her commitment to her faith, her church, and the Blessed Mother was awe-inspiring.
Mary Ann and Bill were blessed with four children: Kevin (Kate) Huber, Karen (Mike) Ballmann (heartbreakingly, both preceded her in death), Kathy (Tim) Blattel and Kimberly (Dan) Bauer, who together, will never forget the love and joy she brought to their lives. Her family expanded to include 11 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren who all loved and adored their Grandma Huber. She was also a loving aunt to 2 nieces and 4 nephews. As for her immediate family, (parents Joseph and Lena Miller, siblings Steve, Albert, Cecilia, Caroline and sister-in-laws Lucille and Wanda), Mary Ann’s arrival to Heaven has completed their reunion.
We will strive to keep her mission alive - we take up our cross, every day, choosing to live a life of humility, performing meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ modeled for us and Mary Ann so faithfully demonstrated throughout her daily life. Mary Ann is the most real-life example of Jesus welcoming his children into Heaven with the greeting, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to our employees at Twin Oaks Senior Living who so wonderfully cared for her with compassion and respect each and everyday. Also, a heartfelt thank you to all our friends and family who carried us through with their thoughts and prayers.
We invite anyone who would like to share memories and enjoy lunch to the Assumption Knights of Columbus Hall immediately following the burial.
