Mary is preceded in death by her siblings Anthony Modzinski, Joseph Modzinski and Rita (Romine) Zakrzewski. She was also a wonderful aunt, great aunt and cousin.
Mary grew up in Walnut Park (North St. Louis City) in a close-knit Polish community with family living next door or down the street. She belonged to St. Adalbert’s Parish and graduated from Laboure Catholic Girls High School. She had several jobs in St. Louis where she traveled by bus and street car. Her favorite job was when she worked at A&P home office as a Comptometer operator. She met Andy in grade school and they dated on and off until she discovered ‘he was the one’. She was an Air Force wife/mom and together with Andy they raised six children all over the US and finally landing back in St. Louis, MO.
Mary was a devout Catholic and was a part of the Legion of Mary for 45 years serving most recently at St. Joseph’s in Cottleville, MO. She recently participated in a podcast on her experiences with the Legion of Mary. She prayed the Rosary daily and included everyone in her prayers.
In her Golden years with Andy, she loved to travel, golf, bowl and also enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble with family and friends. Family was the biggest part of Mary’s life and we have thousands of pictures to help us remember and cherish all of the good times we shared. Mary’s love, kindness and vibrant spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of joy and love and Mary’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in Mary’s name to Mother of Good Counsel Home (Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George) or Birthright St. Charles.
