Mary Ellen Ponder

Mary Ellen Ponder (nee Redding), of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at the age of 86. Cherished daughter of the late Elton and Cora Redding. Devoted mother of Jeffrey B. (Sue) Henderson and Diane (Joe) Hawkins; loving grandmother of Angie (Billy) Dawes; treasured great-grandmother of Myah and Logan; dear sister, Fern (the late Vince) Lovett.  loving aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Preceded in death by first husband, Ralph Henderson; second husband, Mike Sprung; third husband, Virgil Ponder; two brothers, Glen (Naomi) Redding and Al (Betty) Redding. 

Mary's days were infused with a love for movement, as she effortlessly covered 10,000 to 20,000 steps daily, embodying an unwavering commitment to an active lifestyle. She never seemed to sit still, finding solace and joy in the simple act of walking. In quieter moments, Mary indulged her mind with word puzzles, showcasing her keen intellect and love for mental challenges. Her leisurely pursuits also included watching game shows, a source of entertainment that added a touch of excitement to her routine. Mary's unique charm extended beyond her interests; she was known for her non-confrontational demeanor, always choosing harmony over discord, and going out of her way to maintain peace. Her sweet and kind-hearted nature, coupled with a vibrant social spirit, made Mary a cherished presence in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Mary had a good life; she was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
