Mary was born in St. Louis on October 22, 1932 to George and Theresa Tasch. She graduated from Central High School and went to work for Famous-Barr and then Wagner Electric until her first child was born. For a while, she volunteered at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, a job that she enjoyed very much. In 1953 she met a young man (Art) who was visiting her church, Bethel Temple Assembly of God in St. Louis. He was stationed at Scott Air Force Base and after a courtship that took place essentially through letters, they were married in 1956 and made their home in St. Louis. Mary enjoyed traveling and had the privilege of visiting Mexico, Canada, the Northeast and the Northwest and along the Pacific Coast. The first thing people noted about her was her ever-present smile. Mary was a friendly, kind, loving person with a glowing and infectious personality. Her life essentially centered around her home and her family. She and Art adopted two children: Art Jr. and Donna Marie who, unfortunately, passed away in 1997 at the age of 30. It would be safe to say that rearing Art and Donna were the happiest years of her life.
For many years, Mary taught children in Sunday School, feeling that that was her calling and she enjoyed it. Years later, when the family moved to St. Charles, she became a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Health Center.
Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years; her son, Art, Jr.; her sister, Ruth; sister-in-law, Mary Ann; and son-in-law, Brian. An older brother, George preceded her in death. In addition she is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. On September 14th she suffered a severe stroke from which she never recovered.
