Mary Lou Smith (nee Keeny), of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the age of 82. Beloved wife of Gary Dean Smith; cherished daughter of Roy Wm and Gertrude May Keeny. Devoted mother of Anita (Richard D.) Smith Bland Theile, Gary D. (Lori) Smith, Jr., Shane (Cheryl) Smith, and Jason (Candice) Smith; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; beloved sister to Delores, Shirley & Martha, loving aunt to many.
Mary was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church and a longtime Sunday School teacher and Awana mom, guiding many to salvation. She had a deep love for flowers and gardening, taking pride in her beautiful garden and often working barefoot in the dirt, finding beauty in every bloom—wild or not. She was an avid thrift shopper, affectionately known as “Goodwill Granny,” and had a special fondness for pretty glassware, particularly Fenton and Milk Glass, amassing an extensive collection.
A talented seamstress, Mary sewed many of her children’s clothes in their younger years and enjoyed crocheting and quilting with her family. She also had a knack for flower arranging and took great joy in making Angels. A true lady of style, she was a classy dresser who loved her jewelry. However, her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly.
Mary and her beloved husband, Gary, shared 64 wonderful years together, with Johnny B. Goode as their special song. She had a warm and welcoming spirit, always embracing others with open arms and a heart of gold. A loving wife, mother, and caretaker, Mary’s kindness and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Mary's name to Grace Baptist Church.
