On Friday September 1st, Mary Louise (Millard) Vollmer of St. Charles, MO died peacefully at Spencer Place Assisted Living where she had resided for the last year and a half.
Mary was born on August 11th, 1931 to Russell and Ruth (Mullen) Millard in Gibraltar, PA. Mary married her late husband, John Delmar Vollmer on August 17th, 1963 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage in 2021. Mary and John had two children, Amy Louise Schmidt, wife of Richard Schmidt, of St. Charles; and Jeffrey Scott, who lost his battle with cancer at the age of nine in 1974.
Mary is a graduate of Birdsboro High School and a graduate of Kutztown State College. She went on to teach at the elementary level in Pennsylvania, Florida, France, and Germany, before finally concluding her career teaching kindergarten in the Orchard Farm School District in Missouri. While teaching was her occupation, her passion was traveling. Mary and John went on adventures to every state in the U.S. and many countries across the globe. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family. She could often be found sitting on the floor, surrounded by her grandchildren, playing whatever games they wished.
Along with her daughter Amy, Mary is survived by four loving grandchildren: Ryan, husband of Julie, Laurie Brennan, wife of Danny, Derrick and Jessica; a brother, Russell “Ditz” Millard, husband of Myra, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by two brothers: Gene “Judge” Millard and Leonard “Whitey” Millard; a sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Millard) Zuber; her husband, John Delmar Vollmer; and her son, Jeffery Scott Vollmer.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in Mary's name to Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation.
