Matthew Charles Schmitz, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the age of 49. Beloved husband of 27 years to Jill Schmitz; cherished son of Charles and the late Lorena Schmitz. Devoted father of Marshall Schmitz and Paxton Schmitz; dear brother of Christopher (Peggy) Schmitz, Michael Gullett, and Paul (Tiffany) Gullett; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Matthew proudly served in the United States Navy where he served our country during Operation Desert Storm. Matthew was hired on as a Police Officer for the Maryland Heights Police Department on January 13, 1997 where he served the Maryland Heights community for more than 23 years. Matt was assigned to the patrol division but had also served several years in the detective bureau. During his career with the Maryland Heights Police Department, Matt received one Life Saving Commendation, seven Awards of Excellence, and numerous letters of appreciation. He will be sorely missed by both the community he served and protected and his brothers and sisters on the force. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police. Matthew loved his family very much. He loved sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, Mizzou, and the St. Louis Blues. Matthew enjoyed all family activities, especially vacations to the beach. Matthew was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
