Maxine “Mac” M. Ochs

Maxine 'Mac' Marie Ochs passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, Missouri after a brief illness.She was born Wednesday, February 2, 1927 in St. Charles, Missouri, the first of eight children of John Charles and Marie Antoinette (Mallioux) Potts. She married Richard J. Ochs on Wednesday, November 3, 1948 in St. Charles.Maxine graduated from St. Charles Borromeo Grade School and St. Peter's High School, worked at ACF Industries and Baue Funeral Homes. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the American Legion, and a member of the St. Charles County Sports Hall of Fame.
Mac was very active in sports. She played basketball and softball in high school; semi-professional softball during WW II; played golf (the first woman in the ACF golf league); bowled in several leagues in St. Charles and St. Louis. She was an avid sports fan; Cardinal baseball, Rams football and Professional golf. She visited Pebble Beach, and attended The Masters. She enjoyed watching all kinds of sports.
She is survived by four daughters, Karin (Larry) Hodgson of Mt. Carmel, IL, Connie (Tom) Bredensteiner of St. Charles, MO, Peggy (Rick) Williams of Pickerington, OH and Martaun (Tom) Ownbey of LaPlata, MO; eight grandchildren who called her 'Nanny", Molly (Brian) Page, Geoffrey (Natalie) Hodgson, Brett (Kirsten) Bredensteiner, Reed Bredensteiner, Erin (Blake Colman) Bredensteiner, Rodney (Keri) Bond, Richelle Losch and Beth Ownbey; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Betty) Potts; sister, Mary Sabourin; several godchildren, nieces and nephews who called her 'Aunt Mac'.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rich, two infant children; brothers, John Charles 'J.C.', Eugene, Kenneth; and sisters, Kathleen and Cheryl.
She will always be remembered for her active lifestyle and independence, her caring for others, whether it be the greeting cards she sent, the 'Nanny Napkins' she made, the best fleece blankets for grandchildren or the many visits she made to friends. She played in several card groups, played Dominos and did not miss dinner at the Knights of Columbus, American Legion or a Fish Fry at St. Peter's Church.
Per her wishes her body was donated to St. Louis University Medical Center.There will be a Celebration of her life on Saturday, March 8, 2014 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, St. Charles MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Duchesne High School, or charity of choice in memory of Maxine Ochs.
