Melba Louise Gierse

Melba Louise Gierse (nee McDaniel), of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the age of 97. Loving wife of the late Charles F. Gierse, Sr.; beloved daughter of the late Charles and Edna McDaniel; devoted mother of Charles (Donna) Gierse, Jr. and James (Jo) Gierse; cherished grandmother of Lisa (Chris) Duesing, Katherine (Jason) Hollis, Brian (Robin) Gierse, Margaret (Adam) LaMore and Matthew (Emily) Gierse; treasured great-grandmother of Tyler, Emily, Hailey, Caleb, Hannah, Ethan, Jennifer, Amelia, and Sarah; dear sister of the late Vera (Donald) Brune. Melba worked as a nurse for more than 30 years in the obstetrics department for labor & delivery at Jewish Hospital, now Barnes-Jewish Hospital. She greeted many notable St. Louisans at birth. Melba was very active in her church, sang in the choir, and was also active in the altar guild. She was a member of a senior dance group for many years, as well as a senior exercise group. Melba loved music. She and her husband had season tickets to the St. Louis Symphony and the Municipal Opera. Melba enjoyed knitting and embroidery. She knitted afghans for all of her grandchildren. She loved camping, especially with her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. For many years, they had a travel trailer and went all over the United States to see family. Their travels also brought them to Alaska and many places throughout Europe. Melba was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial contributions may be made in Melba's name to Lutheran Senior Services or Zion Lutheran Church of Ferguson.
