Melvin V. “Mel” DuBois, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the age of 93. Beloved husband of the late Evelyn E. DuBois; cherished son of the late Louis and Mary DuBois; devoted father of Patricia DuBois, Michael (the late Nancy) DuBois, Matthew (Kimberly) DuBois, Dawn Alberson, Dana (the late Paul) Blaha and his late infant daughter, Theresa; loving grandfather of Shelby DuBois, Scott DuBois, Melanie DuBois, Jenna Alberson, Scott Alberson Jr., Heather Ackerman, Misty Fletcher and Justin (Jennylyn) Ackerman; treasured great-grandfather of Zoi Dunse, Haden Dunse, Caine Fletcher, Dayven Flecter, Abria Fletcher and David Ackerman; great-great grandfather of Amera Dunse; dear brother of Mary Ann (the late Donald Sr.) Isbell; beloved uncle, cousin and friend to many; Melvin is preceded in death by his siblings, Wilbert DuBois, Arbert DuBois, Verlene Sarnes, Harold DuBois, Dorothy Sudheimer and Paul DuBois.
Mel, a proud Marine, lifelong devout Catholic, member of St. Cletus Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus #823. Mel served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict and was recognized as an Atomic War Veteran. A man of resilience and determination, Mel carried these qualities into every challenge he faced throughout his life.
Mel was a cornerstone of St. Charles County youth sports, helping to establish one of the county's first soccer teams. He was a founding coach for St. Charles Borromeo soccer and basketball teams and dedicated himself to coaching his children's softball teams. Known for his competitive spirit and commitment, Mel inspired countless young athletes. Earlier in life, he worked as a caddy at the prestigious Bellerive Country Club, even participating in the 1947 U.S. Open held in St. Louis. He retired after 48 dedicated years from Drug Package Inc.
Beyond sports, Mel was a man of many talents and a source of joy for those who knew him. With a sharp sense of humor, he entertained his grandchildren with jokes and funny songs. A natural handyman, there was nothing Mel couldn’t fix. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, and cherished the simple moments of life. Above all, his greatest pride and joy was his family, for whom he was a steadfast guide, mentor, and source of endless love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Memorials may be made in Mel's name to Disabled American Veterans.
