Jack was the youngest child of Carlton and Melba Trachte. He lost his father at age 18 months and was raised by his mother and Grandmother, along with his older brother and sister. Jack was a 1953 Graduate of Beaumont High School. He later became a proud member of MOB (Men of Beaumont) where he was able to keep caught up with some former classmates. In 1948 Jack started working for Laclede Gas Company where he would meet the love of his life. In 1950, Jack joined the Army and served in Korea before being discharged in September 1952. On April 12, 1952, Jack and Helene married before he returned to his Army duties. They would raise 3 children together. Most of this time would be in Berkeley, MO where Jack enjoyed hunting, camping, being a Boy Scout leader to Troop 606, a Softball and Baseball coach to his children’s teams and an avid gardener. Jack retired from Laclede Gas Company in 1991 and then Jack and Helene would relocate to St. Peters, MO after the Airport buyout of their home. They would spend 30 years there enjoying retirement, gardening, going to all the school and sport events for their 6 grandkids and the being with the best neighbors. They would enjoy going to Europe 6 times, trips to Colorado, Texas, New Mexico and wherever else their kids would be. Jack was a very active volunteer at the Rec Plex and enjoyed golf with life long friends. Jack and Helene would move again to Wentzville due to his health issues. There he enjoyed watching the antics of the Great Grandkids and the new kittens. Melvin was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
