Michael E. “Mike” Eppard, of Wentzville, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the age of 64. Beloved husband of Jan M. Eppard; cherished son of the late Lloyd E. and Iva Mae Eppard; devoted father of Garrett (Bridget) Dwiggins; proud grandfather of Jack Dwiggins; treasured brother of Bart (Donna) Eppard, Jerry (Betty) Eppard, Bonnie (Duke) Bufford, and the late Zeke Eppard; loving son-in-law of Shirley Crugnale; and dear brother-in-law of Jean (Don) Benne.
At a young age Mike had a wonderful singing voice, learned to play the guitar and eventually formed a band in his teens. He loved country music. It was a big part of his life.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and growing a big vegetable garden. He made his own salsa from the vegetables he grew. It was always in big demand from family and friends.
His lifelong passion was golf and he played as often as possible.
He was inspired to become a corpsman in the Navy after his brother was injured in the Vietnam War. He served 2 years at the Naval base in San Diego. Upon discharge he attended nursing school at St. Mary's in O'Fallon. Upon completion he was hired at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles working in the O.R. His career spanned 44 years. Most of which he worked as a R.N. First Assistant. He was instrumental in teaching and guiding fellow coworkers and kept abreast of the latest medical interventions by attending continuing educational classes. Mike worked tirelessly and dedication and skill was "second to none". He was a mentor to many and his legacy will live on in the excellent work they continue to do.
While working in the O.R. he met the love of his life Jan. They spent 15 joyous years as husband and wife traveling and enjoying time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his son Garrett and daughter-in-law Bridget. His proudest moment was becoming a grandfather to 3 year old Jack. He found great pleasure in being Papa and cherished the time they spent together.
Mike was a man of few words but when he did have something to say it was always worth listening to!
