May 24, 1945 — December 16, 2021

Michael Paul Bland passed away comfortably on December 16, 2021 in hospice in St. Charles MO.

Mike was born on May 24, 1945, in Batesville IN to Paul and Ruth Bland. He is survived by three siblings: Deborah Bland Sherman, who resides in Seattle WA; Thomas Bland, who resides in Batesville IN; and Jeffrey Bland, who resides in Portland OR.

Mike graduated from Batesville High School in 1963. He went on to Purdue University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation from Purdue in 1967, he moved to St. Louis MO where we worked at Mc Donnell Douglas (now The Boeing Company) while continuing his education. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1972, with an advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering.

Mike was very proud to have worked on many projects during his career, including the F-15E Strike Eagle, F/A-18 Hornet and the Bird of Prey, which was initiated into the National Museum of the United States Air Force in 2002. Mike retired from The Boeing Company in May, 2010 where he was a highly respected Chief Engineer. In his spare time, Mike was a private pilot and a flight instructor. Flying his airplane, a Beechcraft Bonanza, was one of the biggest joys in his life. After retirement, Mike completed over 100 missions for the St. Louis-based Wings of Hope, where he flew sick children to hospitals to receive lifesaving medical attention.

In May, 1968, Mike married Donna Angeline Lucido, with whom he had three children. He is survived by all three: Mary Clare Bland, who resides in Madrid, Spain; Catherine Wolfers, married to Kenton Wolfers, who resides in Corte Madera CA and Mick Bland, who resides in Denver CO. He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Ruby Wolfers and Raney Wolfers, who both reside in Corte Madera CA. Donna Bland predeceased Mike in May, 2015.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mike’s honor to Wings of Hope, an organization that he held deeply in his heart.
