Michael W. Callihan, of St. Peters, Missouri, formerly of Pittsfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the age of 72 surrounded by his loving wife and children. Loving husband of Bonnie Callihan (nee: Hayden); beloved son the late Martha Dietz and Michael M. (Elizabeth) Callihan; devoted father of Greg (Donna) Callihan, Gina (Bill) Welch, Patrick (Pam) Callihan, Marine (Joe) Hager, and Michael S. (Shawnean) Callihan; cherished grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 5; dear brother of Tony Callihan, Jack Dietz, and Alyce Becklenberg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his siblings Patrick Callihan, Terry Callihan, Sam Dietz and Elaine Gilbert.
Mike was raised in Plymouth, IL. In the 8th grade he moved to Pittsfield, IL where he met the love of his life Bonnie Hayden. They were married on June 17, 1959 and moved to St. Peters, MO. Mike started working with his Dad drilling water wells and then opened his own construction company building retaining walls. Mike ended his career working for Hoods towing. Mike was an avid Cubs fan (no matter how much his family protested). Mike had five children that were very active in sports growing up. He was as much a coach as he was a Dad. Once his children were adults Mike turned to umpiring for the St. Peter's and American Legion baseball organization. He was truly happy calling balls and strikes behind home plate. Mike had many hobbies but his greatest enjoyment in life was attending his children and grandchildren's ball games, dance recitals, choir concerts, etc. Mike will be missed dearly.
