Millie Yvonne Bray Meyer (nee Bray) has now joined her Mom Helen and her Sister Linda in heaven. She passed away November 11th, at home after a long fight against cancer. She is survived by her one remaining sister; Kathy Thro (Tom); five nieces and nephews, Lisa Kassabaum (Todd), Tammy Hurley, Tina Houghton (Rick), Brett Thro (Cruz) and Ryan Thro; nine great nieces and nephews, Justin, Travis, Ashley, Casey, Mackenzie, Avery, Easton, Grant and Kinley; four great, great, nieces and nephews, Lyland, Ryley, Autymn, Kali and a new one on the way!
Millie was a gentle & caring soul, who loved her family and animals. She always had some kind of pet her entire life - dogs, cats, birds- she even had a pet tarantula one time (we didn't let her keep that very long)! She was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, at that time women were not allowed in combat; her job was to order jeeps and parts to be shipped to Vietnam. She once said, "think they will notice if I order some spare parts and make my own jeep?" Millie worked at Alton Lock & Dam 27 for 15+ years, she called it her "Children's Daycare". Most of the time she was the only female there and looked after all the workers. She would make them special food, shop for their families Christmas and Birthday presents and yell at them when she felt they needed it. Millie loved taking girl trips with her mom, sisters and nieces. It didn't matter where we went or how close or how far - Hawaii, Loutre Lake in New Florence, diamond hunting in Arkansas, or monthly dinners at her own house, she just enjoyed that "Special Girl Time." Most of all she just loved being with her family, didn't matter what was going on, wedding, birthdays, holidays, getting new windows or someone cutting her grass, she cherished every laugh, smile and tear. She will be greatly missed, but with all the memories we have of her, she will never be far from our hearts.
A family only burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in the spring of 2022.
