Milton Frederick Edward Bruns, 94, of Windsor, Colorado, passed away March 27, 2011, at Medical Center of the Rockies. He was born June 4, 1916, in St. Charles County, Missouri, where he lived for 92 years. He attended public schools and Immanuel Lutheran School. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed and married. He worked on the family farm and at Butler Brothers in St. Louis before starting his career with Union Electric Company in St. Charles. He and Verna Moehlenkamp married in 1940. They spent more than 63 joyful years together before her death in 2004. Milton joined the army in 1943 during World War II. After discharge from the army, he returned to Union Electric Company where he worked as a lineman, troubleshooter, and supervisor for 35 years. During his life-long membership at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Milton served his Lord in many capacities. He was an usher, elder, trustee, and served on the financial committee and chaired the cemetery board. He was also a member of the Men’s Club and served as president of the Aid Association for Lutherans chapter. He was chosen as Grand Marshal of the Immanuel Parade in 2007. He coached little league baseball and never missed a chance to attend his children’s school activities throughout grade school and high school. He was a Captain in the St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of American Legion Post 312, where he enjoyed the Fox Hole, dances, and playing pinochle. Milton was a first baseman on a variety of local baseball teams in his younger years and an avid Cardinals fan his entire life. He was proud of his German farming heritage and continued to farm part-time after retirement. His devotion to God, country and family were unsurpassed. Milton was most happy when he was dancing with his wife, playing pinochle, farming, playing and watching baseball, and attending family get-togethers where he could be with the “kiddos” (his grandchildren and great-grandchildren). He is survived by his daughter, Jean Dehnke of Washington, Michigan; son, Dennis (Ronda) Bruns of Windsor, Colorado; granddaughter, Rochelle (Matthew) Abel of Schoolcraft, Michigan, and their children, Matthew Jr., Kevin, Nicole, and Jonathon; grandson, Derek (Jamie) Bruns of Platteville, Colorado, and their daughter, Hannah; granddaughter Krista (Doug) Beeman of Windsor, Colorado, and their children, Karis and Danae. Also surviving are his sister, Pearl Thoelke and sister-in-law, Esther Bruns of St. Charles, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Verna Bruns ; parents, Alvin and Olinda (Hollrah) Bruns, infant twin brother Marvin, brother Warren, and sisters, Janice, and Ellen Mae (Ermeling).
