Milton “Mel” Sonderman, passed away peacefully April 4, 2023. He was the son of the late Frank & Agnes (Nilhas) Sonderman. He was the beloved husband of Marsha (Mittelbuscher). He is survived by his children, Michael (Mary), Patricia Worrall, Joseph (Susan) & Heather (Jason) Moss. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Kathleen (Joseph) Simonet and Cynthia (Jack) Stevens. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Carrie (Dana) Siegmund.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dale (Georgia) Mittelbuscher, sister-in-law, Linda (Kent) Higgins, a niece and 4 nephews. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Melvin and Marilyn (Ermeling) Mittelbuscher.
Mel was employed with Laclede Gas Company from January 4, 1945 to November 1, 1989.
Mel was proud to have served his country as a Navy Corpsman that served with the Marines in the Korean War. He was a survivor of the Chosin Reservoir.
Mel went away with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1946. Unfortunately, after an injury to his arm, his baseball career ended. But his love for Cardinals baseball remained until his death.
Mel loved the game of golf. He played 2-3 times a week after his retirement with various groups of friends. He got his 1st hole in one at the age of 73 on September 18, 2002.
He loved watching the Cardinals and the Chiefs games with Marsha. They both loved watching their grandsons, Jake, Jack and Joe Moss in whatever sports they were participating in. He loved getting videos & pictures of all his grandchildren & great-grandchildren participating in sports, playing musical instruments, participating in robotics competitions or doing whatever made them happy. He would look at all the pictures & videos on his phone on a daily basis. They always brought a smile to his face.
Above all else Mel, loved his family and was so proud of them.
Mel’s family would like to thank Community Loving Care Hospice for the care they provided over the past 9 weeks. They want to especially thank Jan Snyder for the loving care she provided to Mel. She was his and Marsha’s angel here on Earth.
