Nicholas “Nick” Lee Schmitt

November 26, 1957 — December 27, 2020

Nicholas “Nick” Lee Schmitt, 63, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his closest loved ones. Born November 26, 1957 to Robert F. Schmitt and Leona “Gail” Schmitt, nee Sapp in St. Louis, MO, Nick was raised in St. Ann, MO, where he attended St. Gregory Catholic School and later Duchesne High School in St. Charles, MO. After briefly attending St. Louis Community College’s Florissant Valley campus where he studied broadcasting and was on the school’s basketball team, Nick left the journalism field to join Code 3 Public Safety Equipment. In his 38+ years of dedication to the company, Nick worked his way up from the warehouse floor to inside sales.
A member of Sts. Joachim & Ann Parish, Nick was also an honorary member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, where he attended services with his wife Roz. Nick found joy and often laughed when he recalled Pastor Mark telling Nick he was his favorite Catholic. Nick's attendance at Chapel's Men's Retreat was one of his most memorable events.
Known for his huge heart, easy going demeanor, fun and joking personality, and signature expression “YEEESCH”, Nick’s presence was a blessing to those that knew and loved him. Nick loved nothing more than spending time with his wife Roz, son Cory, and his family and friends. You could often find Nick on the couch cheering on his favorite sports teams, which included the St. Louis Blues (yelling “Shoot the damn puck!” at the TV screen), Green Bay Packers prompted by the first ever Superbowl where the Packers defeated the KC Chiefs 35-10 on Jan 15, 1967, Tennessee Volunteers which he owes his fanhood due to Quarterback Peyton Manning, Mizzou Tigers yet his son Cory wouldn’t let him forget he was a Mizzou fan first and foremost, and Fair weather fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. As a young athlete, Nick was inspired to become a pitcher by Cardinals legend Bob Gibson. Nick even had an opportunity to interview another one of his childhood heroes, Lou Brock, while working as a broadcast intern in college. Later on, Nick was a big fan of Albert Pujols both on and off the field.

A lifelong Blues fan, watching the team win the Stanley Cup on June 12, 2019 on the jumbotron at Enterprise Center was one of the happiest moments of his life.

Beyond playing golf when his schedule permitted, Nick was an avid fan of following the PGA Tour as well. This passion for golf brought Nick down to Florida for the Players Championship, witness to Tiger Woods’ comeback weekend at the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive here in St. Louis, and finally a bucket list trip that his wife Roz gave him as his Birthday/Christmas gift to the 2020 Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale with his son.

Some of Nick’s other hobbies were traveling, dancing, dining out, hanging with friends and listening to Classic Rock Music, including one of his favorite female artists Donna Summer. He often looked back fondly on his 20s, where he spent his weekends hanging around Stages and the other nightlife hotspots of the day with his good friends Bob Fisher, Bobby aka “Mr.” Flynn, Alex McKillop, Keith Van Coutren, and many others. Full of stories, Nick was often told that he should have written a book
