Norma Jean Walker

November 17, 1935 — December 18, 2016

Norma Jean Walker (nee: Slavik), of St. Charles, MO, died Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the age of 81.

Norma was the youngest of 11 children of Joseph Frank Slavik and teacher, Anna Isabelle (Slosar) Slavik in Dwight, NE. Norma attended Logan College of Chiropractic and worked as an office manager and Chiropractic Assistant.

Ms. Walker retired from Missouri Baptist Medical Center, patient accounts. The baby of a large farm family, Norma graduated with honors from Omaha Technical High School where she played saxophone in the marching and basketball pep bands cheering on classmate and later, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher, Bob Gibson.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Frank Slavik and Anna Isabelle Slavik and her 10 siblings; Evelyn Theresa (John) Stoupa, Arlene Marie (Emil) Janky, Olga (Frank) Jones, Gilbert (Mary Lou) Slavik, Edith Lucille (Emil) Turille, Mary Ann (George) Olbrey, Alfred Joseph Slavik, Gladys (Bill) Wade, Joseph Leon (Floy) Slavik, Elaine Joyce Slavik.

Norma is survived by her children, Wendy (Bob) Kampmann and Lori (Greg) Carroll and sons, Martin (Cindy) Walker and Kevin (Amy) Walker all of St. Charles, MO; ten grandchildren, Dawn (Chuck) Kitley, Laura Taylor, Anna (Steve) Ratzlaff, Dana (Andy) Hughes, Michelle (Patrick) Johnson, Heidi (Kaleb) Clevenger, Charlee Walker, Cory Walker, Angela (Richard) Hinchsliff, and Lea Walker; five great grandchildren, Daine Taylor, Miko Taylor, Aaron Kitley, Delaney Kitley and Peter Ratzlaff with a sixth great grandchild due soon to Heidi (Kaleb) Clevenger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fiercely independent, Norma mowed her own yard until entering assisted living at 80 years old, saying she would rather “push a lawn mower than a vacuum cleaner any day”. Norma will be remembered for being a sassy, sarcastic and silly mother & grandmother who created opportunities for fun. Norma loved sharing her baking with family, gardening, bowling, golfing, word puzzles and watching Matlock reruns golf, Cardinals baseball.

Norma chose to participate in the education of medical students through whole body donation to Washington University School of Medicine. When speaking of how to handle her death she instructed her children to “donate my body to science and go out and have a pizza party”. Norma’s children, grandchildren & great grandchildren did just that during Christmas week to celebrate Norma’s life & love.
