Norvell Richard Benoist, of Saint Peters, MO, Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the age of 83. Loving husband of Marcella “Marcy” Benoist (nee Scheve) for 62 years; beloved son of the late Norvell A. and Florence Benoist; devoted father of Laura (Mike) Mueller, Janet Snyder, Jeff (Celeste) Benoist, Ken (Rose) Benoist, Teresa Benoist, Linda (Mark) Grobelny, and Tina (Kevin) Murphy; cherished grandfather of Sarah (Donny) Buehler, Ryan Mueller, Christine Mueller, Monica Snyder (Adam Jackson), Julie (William) Wolk, Neil Snyder, Ellen Snyder, Everett Snyder, Vincent Benoist, Claire Benoist, Angela Benoist, Rebecca (Matt) Close, Peter Benoist, Tommy Benoist, Kyle Murphy, and Brendan Murphy; treasured great-grandfather of Damian Close, Zoey Wolk, Malcolm Wolk, and Clara Jackson; dear brother of Judy (Russ) Dippold, Jeanne Wehner, Joe (the late Linda) Benoist, and Margie (Len) Daiber; brother-in-law of Rita (the late Vince) Campana and Nancy Benoist; dear family friends of Rita and Bob Lefebvre, Bob and Mary Ann Peniston, and Rev. Fr. David Wichlan. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Mary Benoist, two brothers, Ken Benoist, Steve Benoist, five siblings-in-law, Mary (Bill) Probst, Herman (Monica) Scheve, Frank (Detta) Scheve, Patricia (Bruce) Gardiner, and Al (June) Scheve. He will be missed by many others.
Norv proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a police officer for St. Louis County Police for 30 years before his retirement as a lieutenant. He was a longtime member of Saint Rita Parish in Vinita Park. He enjoyed wineries with his family, model trains, shooting at the range, telling jokes and playing his guitar. In the words of Padre Pio, Norv would have reminded you “Pray, hope, and don’t worry.”
