Orville B. Schafermeyer, known by family and friends as “Art” born on Dec. 22, 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed from life on Aug. 4, 2021. He was 95 years old.
Art was a printer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for many years and retired in 1987. He lived in Osage Beach, Missouri for about 20 years before recently relocating to St. Peters, Missouri. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served during WWII as an aerial torpedoman in Pearl Harbor and Guam. He later earned a pilot license. He loved bowling, golf, card games and was good with a story or a joke.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry W. and Josephine T. Schafermeyer, (nee Urke); his first wife Sarah L. Schafermeyer (nee Rasmussen) and brother, William J. “Bill” Schafermeyer.
Art is survived by his wife, Norma J. Schafermeyer (nee Polk), two sons, Steven T. Schafermeyer (Sandy) of Lake Ozark, Missouri and Kenneth W. Schafermeyer (Donna) of St. Louis, step-sons, Kerry R. Keller (Rebecca), Jack P. Keller and Jeffrey D. Keller; 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
