Orville F. Ohlms, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018, at the age of 90. Beloved husband of the late Martha Ann "Marty" Ohlms; cherished son of the late Clem and Florence Ohlms; devoted father of Lisa (Kerry) Crayon, Jeffrey (Kelly) Ohlms, and the late Kevin Ohlms; dear father-in-law of Teresa Ohlms; proud grandfather of Jennifer (Andrew) Walton, Kyle (Wendy) Little, Kali Crayon, Shaun (Katie) Ohlms, Stacy (Adam) Humphrey, Dylan Ohlms, and Ashlyn Ohlms; treasured great-grandfather of Logan Humphrey, Samantha Little, Carly Humphrey, Brooke Walton, Lilly Ohlms, Brady Little, Macie Humphrey, Bristol Little, and Lucas Ohlms; and dear brother of Mary Ann (Cyril) Meyer, Paul (Marianne) Ohlms, Virginia Seigler, Larry (Doris) Ohlms, and Alice Rothermich. He was also a loving uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend to many.
In addition to his wife, parents, and son, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth Ohlms, Glennon Ohlms, Kathleen Ohlms, Robert Ohlms, Eugene Ohlms, and Herbert Ohlms.
Although retired from farming, Orville continued to stay abreast of the farming operation, grain prices and the unpredictable weather conditions.
Gardens were plentiful with vegetables. Many family & friends would return every year for his mouthwatering sweet corn.
In the fall, Orville & Marty would pick up pecans, and spend many hours at the kitchen table (including the grand kids a couple of times) picking them out of the shells. Nothing better than a pecan pie at Thanksgiving!
Windmills had always fascinated Orville. So later in life he began refurbishing and erecting windmills. He would travel as far as Iowa for that old broken down rusty windmill. After restoring, highlighting the brand of motor and personalizing, it would be erected, spin freely & shine like a new diamond ring. Today he has 3 spinning high on both of his farm and several neighbors have his windmills on their farms.
Later in life Orville started off mornings sharing coffee & much laughter with his McDonald buddies. They became some of his best friends over the years.
Orville & Marty spent their last 10 months at Cedarhurst in St. Charles, where new friends were made and familiar faces happily appeared.
Orville loved reminiscing and would shock most with his sharp memory.
Marty, the love of his life, passed away this past January. After her death Orville was anxious for his day to be called home and be reunited with his beautiful bride once again.
The family would like to thank Kim and Canaann with Heartland Hospice. You are certainly on the “A” team and gave loving attention as if he was your own father.
Memorial contributions may be made in Orville’s honor to Heartland Hospice or masses.
