Patricia Hunt-Volmer

Patricia Hunt-Volmer (nee Roberts), of Lake Saint Louis, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the age of 80. Loving wife of Melvin Volmer; beloved daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Roberts; devoted mother of Brian (Helle) Hunt, Darren (Jessica) Hunt, Brian (Dana) Volmer, and Kristy Bryson;

Born August 7, 1940 to Elizabeth (Ebby) and Clarence Roberts in Kansas City, Kansas.  She attended Welborn Grade School and in 1958 graduated from Washington High School in Kansas City.  In high school she was a member of the National Honor Society, a varsity cheerleader, a performer in various plays and the Madrigal Society, and a member of the Junior Assembly

Patricia attended Kansas State University and graduated with a B.S. in Nursing in 1962 from Kansas University.  Collegiate activities and accomplishments include Homecoming Queen attendant, cheerleading and membership in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Sigma Theta Tau professional society of nursing.  She was conferred her masters in Nursing Administration from Emory University in 1983.  While at Emory, she worked with the Dean of Nursing to revise the nursing standards for the State of Georgia.

She married Ralph Hunt on August 26, 1961 in Kansas City, KS where together they welcomed Ralph Brian (1962) and Darren Lee (1966).  While there, Patricia worked as an Instructor of Maternity Nursing and the Assistant Director of the School of Nursing at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in KC, MO.

The family moved to the Philippines in 1966-1968 but returned to Overland Park, KS from 1969-1973.  Patricia was an instructor at the Kansas University School of Nursing from 1970 – 1973.

From 1973 – 1982 the family lived in Coeur d'Alene, ID where Patricia’s activities included the Women’s Medical Auxiliary (President), Staff Nurse and Charge Nurse at Kootenai Memorial Hospital in Kootenai county, ID.  Her activities included completing a marathon, playing racquetball, snow skiing, water skiing, travels to Hawaii, baking and being team Mom to the swim team.

Patricia moved to St. Louis, MO in 1983.  For the next ten years she worked at Monsanto as a Corporate Nurse where she: developed a corporate audit program for medical facilities; became certified as an Occupational Health Nurse; conducted domestic and international audits; wrote the Monsanto Medical Manual; chaired development of Monsanto Contractor Health and Safety Guidelines; conducted Monsanto Health and Safety meetings; was a representative at Chemical Manufactures Health and Safety Committee in Washington DC;  and published Guidelines for Job Descriptions for Occupational Health Nurses for the national organization.  Patricia was invited to give multiple speeches at national conferences, especially on the topic of Reproductive Issues in the Workplace.  She was a guest faculty at St. Louis University, St Louis, MO and the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.  She was published in the Occupational Health Nursing on Reproductive Issues in the Workplace.

From 1994 – 1996 she worked at United Parcel Services as Health Manager where she audited medical examination programs in Missouri and Kansas; and managed the mandatory drug testing for drivers.

Patricia worked at Medical Transportation Management from 1996 until her retirement in 2006.  While there she was the Quality Assurance Manager; she developed Transportation Provider Guidelines and Requirements; performed audits; and provided oversight of service proposals.

Patricia married Melvin Volmer on September 10, 1994 and welcomed his children Brian and Kristy Volmer.   Together she and Mel travelled frequently including trips to 18 countries and many places in the US.  Besides travels Patricia enjoyed her time as a hospice volunteer, as a certified aerobics instructions, and especially enjoyed playing golf.

Patricia and Mel’s grandchildren are Daniel, Weston, Tea, Aidan, Siena, Colton, Carson and Lilah, and Lily is the expected first great grandchild.  They enjoyed visiting them and Patricia welcomed them to their home with chocolate chip cookies.  Patricia and Mel continued to watch them grow and marveled in their accomplishments.

Patricia fought valiantly but succumbed to cancer on November 3, 2020.
