Paul Albert Sprenger of O’Fallon, MO, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 23, 2021, at the age of 98 years and 6 months. Beloved husband of Lucy Christine Sprenger (nee Nelson) for 77 years, 11 months; cherished son of the late Emil A. Sprenger and Amanda D. Sprenger (nee Koch); devoted father of Sharon K. Shields, Ruth Ann Folkerts (Jerry), Kenneth Lee Sprenger (Robin), Edith Louise Craig (Alan), and Lynn Marie Holman (James); loving grandfather of 20 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 33 great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by Lucy, the love of his life, on April 8, 2021, 15 days prior to his own passing, 1 brother (Glenn) and 6 sisters (Virginia, Margaret, Ollie, Betty, Helen and Linda). Paul is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Paul was born in his parent’s home near Commerce, MO on October 12, 1922. He graduated from Benton High School in 1939, attended Draughon’s Business College and received his Associates Degree in Science/Accounting from St. Louis University in June, 1947. Paul and Lucy were married in Scott City, MO, on May 16, 1943.
Paul was a lifetime servant of his Lord, serving in a variety of leadership and evangelical roles, a lifetime member of Alpha Sigma Nu National Honor Society, Treasurer of Board of Education for Riverview Gardens School District from April 1963 through April 1966, an active member and President of National Association of Accountants, and an active member of Gideons International North Central Camp in St. Louis holding various offices during his involvement there. Paul retired from active employment in 1989 from Goedecke Companies, Inc as Vice-President.
Paul was a very introspective, kind and loving man. His greatest joys in life were time spent with Lucy, his family, and in his garden. At the age of 97 he was able to publish a memoir he had worked on for many years entitled “Boyhood Memories of Farm Life: A Memoir by Paul Sprenger" (available on Amazon). Paul was deeply loved and respected for his honesty, integrity and his never-ending faith in God. Paul was a constant example to his friends and family of what faith, devotion and true love means.
The family is being served by Baue Funeral Home-Cave Springs, at 3950 West Clay, St. Charles, MO. Visitation will be Thursday, April 29 between the hours of 3pm and 7pm. A private funeral service for the immediate family only, is planned for Friday, April 30, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in O'Fallon, MO. The service will be live-streamed at
