Paul Louis “George” Beilsmith passed away on the morning of August 31, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was a loving and beloved father, grandfather, brother, father-in-law, uncle, friend, and so much more. He will be deeply missed.
George was the youngest child of Clyde & Marie Beilsmith of Portage des Sioux, Mo, and baby brother to Eleanor (Beilsmith) Poeling. His brother, Larry was a mainstay his entire life from teaching George to play baseball, through their years in business, to his last days.
After graduating from St. Charles High School in 1955, where he gave his all to baseball, music and his friends, George joined Larry in business with their father building homes. A few years later, Beilsmith Brothers Roof Truss was founded, and remains in business today, nearly 60 years later. This was an enormously proud legacy for George.
In 1961, after proudly serving in the United States Army Reserves, George married MaryAnn (Machens), settling into a home they designed and built together, to raise their children, Craig and Christy. These happy years were filled with love and laughter, camping, baseball, travel, the Lake, and, always, music.
Singular in his passions, baseball was replaced by golf somewhere in the 80’s. He enjoyed playing on courses in Cancun, Portugal, and Spyglass Hill, in California. But what he loved best was to play anywhere his friends were. Hours in the sunshine on the course, and his many friends, helped sustain him after he lost his wife.
There were other bright spots in those years, like road trips on the California coast or a meal from any celebrity chef. But none shone brighter for George than his grandsons, Grant and Nathan Beilsmith. They gave him so much joy in the seventeen years he spent with them, from days at Disneyland to passing on his love of baseball to them. He was very proud of the men they’ve become.
George is survived by his children Craig (Jennifer) and Christy (Tony Vitale) Beilsmith, grandsons Grant and Nathan Beilsmith, his brother, Larry, brother-in-law Tom (Marge) and cherished nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Marie Beilsmith, sister & brother-in-law, Eleanor & Clifford Poeling, sister-in-law, MaryKatherine Beilsmith, and nephew, Kenneth Beilsmith.
George was involved in many organizations over the years, from the Jaycees to the Home Builders Association, where he accomplished many things. But George will be remembered whistling, or singing, with a smile and a kind word for everyone he knew.
Visitation is Tuesday, September 10th, from 4-8 pm at Baue on West Clay. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 11th, at 11:00am at St. Charles Borromeo, with a lunch to follow at Pio’s at 1:30 pm.
