Schmittling, Paul John, of O'Fallon, MO, died on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the age of 86. Loving husband of Clarita Schmittling; beloved son of the late Joseph and Agnes Schmittling; devoted father of Barbara (Tom) Mennemeier, Paul F. Schmittling, Daniel J. Schmittling, Stephen G. Schmittling, Mary E. Moughton, Cecilia A. Schweig; dear brother of Jean A. Schwartz, Cletus G. Schmittling, and Raymond A. Schmittling; cherished grandfather of John (Nikki) Schmittling, Jaimes Schmittling, Corey Schweig, Jacob Schmittling, Alexandra Schweig, Cary Schmittling, William Schmittling, and Kate Schweig; treasured great-grandfather of Cole Schmittling. He is preceded in death by his great-grandchildren Dane Gerald, and Schmittling Twins, his siblings Marian Knee, Eugene Schmittling, Joseph Schmittling, Frank Schmittling, Cecilia E. Schmittling, Eleanor Schuline, Elvira Balzer, and Bernice Lauf, and his dear friends Ray and Doris Lake, Richard and Gene Kopf, and Shorty.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church for 40 years, and a long-time member of Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the VFW of O'Fallon. Paul enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and fishing, but most of all he loved being with his family. He will be missed dearly.
