Peggy Sue Farris, age 75, of Moscow Mills, MO, passed away on Friday July 26, 2024. Peggy was born at home on November 11, 1948, in Doniphan, MO, to Jay and Helen (Stewart) Whitaker. She graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1966 and received her Associate of Science degree from North Central Missouri College in Trenton, MO, in 1998. On December 2, 1967, Peggy was united in marriage to Larry Everett Farris in Poplar Bluff, MO.
Peggy enjoyed working with children and being involved in her church. After several years of babysitting in her home, she started Miss Peggy’s Preschool, which she operated for 25 years. She continued working with children while employed with Parents as Teachers. Peggy was continually serving her church as a Sunday school teacher, as a member of the Lydia Circle and the Sarah Circle, as a counselor at Camp Galilee, as director of the annual Harvest Festival, and as director of the Interfaith Food Pantry all in Milan, MO. She also served as director of the Moscow Mills Food Pantry at the Moscow Mills United Methodist Church. She was always willing to help out anyway she could. Peggy also loved quilting with the ladies from church. As well, she enjoyed playing games with family and friends.
Survivors include daughters, Jennifer (Chris) Franklin and Jessica (Jason) Brown; grandsons, Justin Brown and Jaymeson Brown; siblings, Paul (Linda) Whitaker and Dorothy (Roger) Young; and several nieces, nephews and stepsiblings.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by an infant brother Roger Wayne Whitaker.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, August 2, 2024, at Moscow Mills United Methodist Church in Moscow Mills, MO. A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 11:00am to 4:00pm with a memorial celebration at noon at the Moscow Mills Lions Club in Moscow Mills. Private burial will be at St. Charles Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Moscow Mills Food Pantry, St. Jude’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital, or to the family.
