Philip Albert Witte of West Alton, MO passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, in his home of 46 years, Friday, June 19, 2020, at the age of 75.
Beloved husband of 52 years to Eileen, née Weber. Loving father of John (Diane), Dale (Christy), Becky Çaushi (Eglantin), Dan (Jen), Nichole Olson (Jonny), and Matt (Jacqueline).
Adoring grandfather of Heather, Lily, Riley, Era, Hazel, and another granddaughter on the way to be named later.
Beloved son of the late Philip and Irene Witte. Dear brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Phil graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Master’s in Food Science and Nutrition. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He was drafted into the Army in June of 1969, and honorably discharged in February 1971. He retired from Raltson Purina/Protein Technologies Int’l/Solae after 36 years. “Doc,” as he was called by many, was a pioneer in the soy protein industry.
Phil always put family first. He cherished the times that all his children and grandchildren gathered. From chasing the kids, to giving thrilling “run-flip-overs” and “underducks”, to pulling the kids water skiing, he loved it all. Phil enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, golfing, barbecuing, traveling, horseshoes, bags, pinochle, reading, and Zephyr lunches.
He was a loyal Mizzou Tiger football and basketball fan and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. So much so, that Phil and Eileen celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with their family at a Cards game in a party room.
Phil’s grandchildren were the highlight of his life. They were the sunshine in his final days. He was so proud of his children and their spouses for how much they helped him and their Mom these past couple of years.
