Phyllis “Jean” Box

November 5, 1932 — August 1, 2021

Jean was born Nov. 5th, 1932 in Stockton, MO, to Noel (Shorty) and Minnie (Whistance) Frieze, and departed this life, August 1st, 2021. Jean accepted Christ as her Savior in 1947. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1950. On Feb. 13, 1954 she married the love of her life, Ora Clifford “Tip” Box. They were blessed with 2 children, Sheryl and Randy. Tip and Jean moved to St. Charles in 1956, and then later to St. Peters. They moved their membership to First Baptist Church of St. Peters in 1968 where Jean enjoyed teaching the 4 year old Sunday School Class, the Children’s church, and the RA’s, and also nursery coordinator for a few years. She loved children.

In 2006, they moved their membership to First Baptist Church of St. Charles, where Jean remained a member until death. Jean retired from McDonnell Douglas in 1991 after 25 years of service. She loved her job and made many friends. After retirement she took quilting lessons, and enjoyed making quilts for her family. After Tip retired, they loved to travel with their good friends, Bill & Bev Fuller, and were fortunate to see many points of interest in the United States. Jean truly loved all her family and enjoyed it so much when they came to visit. She always enjoyed the Whistance Family reunion held in Stockton, MO, each September and also her Class of 1950 reunion. Jean helped organize a McDonnell Douglas get-together which was held every September in St. Charles where about 70 to 80 co-workers would gather for a meal and visiting. She “retired” from that in 2016 after 11 years.

Jean leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband Tip, a daughter Sheryl (Shannon) Wilson, a son Randy (Kristine) Box; 3 grandchildren, Greg (Lindsay) Wilson, Tracie Colbert, and Dustin (Rebecca) Box Hellmann; step-grandchildren, Eric Cross and Julia Cross; 5 great-grandchildren, Cydney Wilson, Aubrey and Cannon Colbert, and Tegan and Zeddius Hellmann; a sister-in-law, Maxine Norton, a brother-in-law, Charles Land, and a sister-in-law Dollie (Raymond) Harper; Jean is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Shorty & Minnie, a brother Joe (Ann) Frieze, a sister-in-law Betty (Jack) Keller, brother-in-law Montie (Joyce) Box, sister-in-law Helen Land, brother-in-law Bill Norton, a grandson-in-law, Joey Colbert and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made in Jean's name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
