Randall David Whanger, of Bridgeton, MO, passed away at his home Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the age of 99. Cherished husband of the late Amy "Grace" Whanger for 75 years; beloved son of the late Walter and Marguerite Whanger; devoted father of David Whanger, Lavinia "Kaye" Sakovich, and Pam (Bob) Borger; treasured grandfather of Natasha (Landon) Day and Stephanie Whanger; dear brother of the late Russell Whanger, the late Raymond Whanger, the late Roy Whanger and the late Meta Owen. Randall is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Randall was THE "make it happen guy" and got the job done no matter what. The hard work of growing up on a farm and surviving the Depression instilled in him a life-long strong work ethic. Randall served in the U.S. Army, attended Chillicothe Business College, Bradley University and Ranken Technical College. He was incredibly smart and financially astute. He built an impressive career, first becoming a watchmaker and opening a jewelry store in Arizona. Returning to St. Louis he worked 15 years as the Production Manager for Airpath Instrument Co. making compasses for airplanes. Then 20 years as Directorate for Procurement and Production for the U.S. Government. While still working for the Government, Randall and his nephew Ron raised purebred Charolais cattle.
Randall's attention to detail and hard work made him the perfect driving force to get any task or project completed. Along with all his volunteer work, Randall was still serving on the Dunn Road Chapel Board of Directors and was the church Secretary for 30 years. Randall's love of history and geography naturally led to his extensive knowledge about all current news and world events. His life was often lived outdoors as his passions included fishing, gardening, raising cattle, hunting and Missouri Conservation.
Randall's main concern was providing for his family, with their safety and well-being as his top priority. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Determined is the word that Randall embodied in all aspects of his life.
