Ray Duane Peterson of Saint Charles, MO, passed away at the age of 94 on Sunday, April 5, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Harrison Peterson and Floy Moore Peterson and by his step-mother, Ruth Moore Peterson. He was raised in Browning, MO and spent much of his life in Media, PA.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Carolee Garrett Peterson; his children, David (Gail) Peterson, Linda (the late Andrew III) Giesen, and Brenda (Timothy) Savago; his eight grandchildren Jennifer Hartley, David Peterson, Christina (Nicklaus) Hetfeld; Jesse Savago (Christen Padilla), Kelly Savago (Rodrigo Bustamante), Matthew (Sarah) Savago, Joseph Giesen, and Carrie Giesen; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Ray served during World War II as a 2
nd Lieutenant in the US Navy, training in aviation. After his service, he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Missouri. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1950. Ray was a member of Pi Tau Sigma, Tau Beta Pi, and a lifetime member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He worked for his entire career as an engineer for Westinghouse, where he oversaw design and construction of desalinization plants in various international locations, including Saudi Arabia, Japan, the Virgin Islands and Italy. In his free time, Ray enjoyed building model airplanes, following the Phillies and Missouri sports teams, and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Media, Pa, where he served for many years as a Trustee. He was an extremely kind and gentle man and took such good care of his wife and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
