Rebecca Anne Sanchez

December 18, 1948 — September 29, 2022

St. Louis

Our dear mother, gramma, and gran gramma, Rebecca “Miss Becky” Sanchez, 73, of Overland Missouri passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2022, at 3:30 PM.

She was one of eight children, born to Victor and Guadalupe Sanchez on December 18, 1948, in Brawley, California. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 25 years as a Revenue Officer. Her hobbies included journal writing, gardening, reading spiritual books, and cooking. She was a member of All Souls Catholic Church, Overland, Mo.

Miss Becky devoted over 50 years towards teaching Catholic education and served as Director of Religious Education for several parishes. She was a professed third order Carmelite. We are so proud that throughout her lifetime she was a member of Catholic Women for Christ, Catholic Daughters of America, Women of Grace and Legion of Mary.

She was most passionate about her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We always looked forward to the phone calls on our birthdays when she would sing Las Mananitas and make you feel so special with memories of stories of our childhood. She faithfully remembered to celebrate Feast Days and sacramental anniversaries.  We would receive group prayer texts from her often to remind us to love and pray for one another. She was our favorite cook, making homemade tortillas, the world’s best tamales, chorizo burritos and Chocalate Ibarra. She has left a legacy for future generations as a prolific storyteller. She was talented at acting out a story or sharing minute details from childhood. We enjoyed her happiness when dancing the infamous “Sanchez step” while listening to Oldies but Goodies. We remember and cherish her infectious laugh, inviting spirit, and ability to create friendships wherever she went.

She is survived by daughter, Suzanne (Mark) Hensel; daughter, Deborah (Edward) Powell; daughter Andrea Murray; son, Reverend Father Anthony Ochoa; son, Adrian (Katrina) Ochoa; son, Edward (Victoria) Ochoa, 29 grandchildren and two great grandchildren., and brothers and sisters, Victor, Mike, Lupita, Jimmy, Helio, and Sarah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Guadalupe Sanchez and her brother Alex Sanchez.

A public Visitation will be hosted on October 5, 2022, at Baue Funeral Home, O’Fallon, Mo from 4 to 7 PM. A Holy Rosary will be prayed immediately following at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 6, 2022, 10 AM at All Souls Parish, Overland, Mo. She will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis.

We celebrate our mothers love and faithfulness. May her life and memory be a blessing to all.
