Reverend Gary Charles Voss

February 24, 1950 — February 2, 2016

Voss, Reverend Gary Charles, of Ferguson, MO, died on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the age of 65. Beloved husband of Gail Voss; cherished son of the late Charles and Esther Voss; devoted father of Emily (Stephen Light) Voss and Nathaniel Voss; loving brother of Chris (Adriana) Voss and brother-in-law of Rob (Mary Ann Dyka) Diedrich; treasured cousin of Kathleen (Calvin) Wood; dear uncle and friend to many.

He always had a passion for helping people and was a faithful servant. He began his professional career in physical therapy. He served hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home care agencies in Minnesota, New York, and Missouri. Realizing that people need spiritual care along with physical care, he attended Christ Seminary-Seminex and graduated in 1983. For the past 32 years, he provided ministry through a variety of different organizations. His years in ministry include serving as the Training Course Director at Stephen Ministries, a chaplain at St. Louis University Hospital, the VA Medical Center, Unity Health Hospice, and VNA Hospice. He was Director of the St. Louis office of Joni and Friends Disability Ministry. He served as Interim Pastor at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Clayton, Zion Lutheran Church in Ferguson, Trinity Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, Zion Lutheran Church in Shipman, IL St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dorchester, IL, and Hope Lutheran Church in St. Charles. He provided pulpit supply throughout the St. Louis region and Illinois. Additionally, he devoted numerous hours of loving service to Zion Lutheran Church in Ferguson. Gary took “time to care.” Since 1981, he has been a faithful blood platelet donor for Barnes Pheresis. At the time of his passing, he was Pastoral Staff at Stephen Ministries, as well as pulpit supply as Mt. Zion Litchfield, and Trinity in Rural Litchfield, IL.

He twice traveled to Mexico as part of Wheels for the World, an organization that provides refurbished wheelchairs to those in need. The absence of his servant’s heart will be missed by many.

Memorials may be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) World Hunger Appeal.
