Beethe, Rexferde M. “Rex”, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, October 2, 2015, at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Mitzi (nee: Young); dear father of Karen (Ron) Schneider, Barbara (Dave) Berelsman, Mike (Bev) Beethe, and Jim Beethe; dear grandfather of Scott (Shirley) Schneider, Brandy (Bob) Walter, Tammy (Kurt) Zaehner, Cory Cissell, Charles (Ameli) Blaser, Patrick (deceased), Waytt and Trace Beethe, and Kristen (Joe) Kraus; dear great-grandfather of Aaron and Mark Schneider, Chandler Walter, Danny, Brenden, and Lindsey Dennett, Alba Blaser, Leo, Evelyn, Phoebe, and Cora Kraus, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rex was born September 23, 1921 in a farmhouse on the home place where he grew up and worked until he joined the army air corp during WWII. Rex was in the ground invasion of North Africa as a radio operator, then requested a transfer to the 97th Bomber Squadron where he flew 50 missions on a B-17 as a radio operator and gunner. He was awarded the air medal with silver and bronze clusters. After returning from the war as tech sergeant he went into business with his future father-in-law, Dan O. Young at Doy TV.
Rex retired in 1983 and was a volunteer for “Corps”, Country Older Citizens Program. Until 2 months ago Rex was still very active, enjoying his daily swim and work out in the gym, and socializing with his many friends at happy hour in the Villas at Delmar Gardens O’Fallon. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Del (Mattson) his sisters, Pearl and Vivian, and brothers, Jim and Jerry.
Rex’s wish was to be cremated and his ashes buried with his wife, Mitzi in the Beethe plot in Fullerton, ND.
