Richard “Alan” Flathers Jr. from Marshalltown, IA, passed away February 15, 2023. He was born May 16, 1980 to Richard and Barbara (Stallwood) Flathers .
Alan is survived by his father, Rich (Yorie) Flathers of Tokyo, Japan; his sister, Amy (Ryan) McGraw of Bondurant, IA; nephew and niece, Mason Frost and Melody McGraw of Bondurant, IA; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is survived by 3 children, Taylor, Skylor, and Kaylee, whom although unfortunately wasn’t able to raise, thought of them every single day and loved them with everything he had.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Flathers; grandparents Vern and Virginia Stallwood, Les and Dolly Flathers; uncles Junie and Calvin Harvey, Larry Stallwood, Robert and Don Flathers.
Alan had a love of woodworking and made everyone beautiful treasures. He served 8 years in the United States Army, including a tour in Afghanistan in 2001. Alan was known to have a kind and generous heart. He would have given the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He would have sacrificed himself for those he loved. He was smart as a whip and had a wicked sense of humor. He had a great impact on those he met. I can't imagine anyone meeting him and ever forgetting him. Alan is loved. He will be immensely missed.
