Heywood, Richard G., of Innsbrook, Missouri, died on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the age of 81. Dearest husband of Jane Frances Heywood (nee: Harder); dear son of the late Harold and Blanche Heywood; devoted father of seven and grandfather of eight. He is survived by many relatives and friends to whom he is much loved. Dick was a veteran of World War II, in which he proudly served the Navy. He graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S Degree in 1952 and Washburn University law school in 1954, were he was a member of the Law Review Board. He maintained an active membership in the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. He was admitted to practice before the Missouri and Kansas Bars in 1954, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Dick has been actively engaged in the private practice of patent, trademark and copyright law in the St. Louis area for over fifty years, with an emphasis on all aspects of mechanical patent matters and trademark law. Dick was a member of the Missouri Bar Association, The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, American Bar Association and American Intellectual Property Law Association. He has been active in the Patent and Trademark Committee work of these professional organizations, including having served as State Chairman of the Missouri Bar Committee for three terms and structured enactment of the Missouri Trademark Law (Model Act). In addition, he has taken an active role in other local and state bar committee work for many years, including his proud and vigorous support and advocacy for the Missouri Bar Lawyer’s Assistance Committee, Missouri Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers and the Intervention Committee of the Supreme Court of Missouri. Dick’s faith and spirituality were central in his life. He was much loved in the Harmony Church community and will be greatly missed.
