Rita Corinne Smith
April 14, 1930 — July 16, 2019
Rita Corinne Smith, (nee: Norris) of Maryland Heights, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the age of 89. Cherished daughter of the late George Norris and the late Florence Sultzman; devoted mother of John (Vicky) Welther, Jorgina (Tom) Smith, Terry (Robert) McLellan; dear sister of James (Natale) Norris, Henry (Geneva) Norris, Virginia (Ron) Norris-Rothel, Catherine (Ken) Poulsen; loving grandmother of numerous grandchildren.
Rita worked for NASA back when it was called the NACA as a math technician, in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. At NASA she worked on the development of the ion engine. Rita was active in church music as a vocalist. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, as well as a former member of the Red Hat Society.
Rita was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Rita's name to Wounded Warrior Project.
