On Saturday, September 14th, 2019 at 4:19 pm, Robert Gerald Atwater, father of three sons passed away at the age of 88. Robert, also known as Bob, was born April 16th, 1931 to Joseph and Flossie Atwater. Robert was a native of Peoria, IL and later attended Quincy, IL High School.
Robert felt a call of duty and joined the Naval Reserve in 1947 until 1951. He married his sweetheart Marjorie C. VanOrder on February 6th, 1951 after joining the Marine corps in 1951 until 1954 and became a military policeman, serving 16 months in Korea. In 1959, Bob, his wife, two sons Michael and Mark, and son Matthew who was on the way, move to St. Charles, MO where he was sales manager for standard termite control in his father's business. Soon after, Robert became a patrolman on the St. Charles City Police Force where he scored a 96 on the shooting range, one of the highest scores ever posted. He later became a fireman in St. Charles and drove an ambulance in his spare time. Bob was a dedicated public servant for a large part of his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Flossie; and his wife, Marjorie Atwater. He is survived by three sons, Michael Kent Atwater of O’Fallon, Missouri; Mark Kurtis Atwater of Wentzville, Missouri; and Matthew Kirk Atwater of O'Fallon, Missouri; and seven cherished grandchildren.
