Robert R. “Bob” Crowley passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 12 just short of his 92nd birthday.
Bob was born on October 15, 1932, in Pine Lawn, MO to Leroy J. and Mathilda Crowley (nee Merod). He was part of the Normandy High School class of 1950 where he excelled in wrestling and football. This is where he met his first wife Amzaetta “Amza” (nee Alsop) who preceded him in death. After Bob served honorably in the United States Army, where he wrestled in the Special Services, he and Amza built their home in Spanish Lake where they raised their family.
After Amza passed away suddenly in 1989, Bob reconnected with Dorothy “Dottie” Ruprecht (nee Bett) at a Normandy High School class reunion, and they were married in March of 1996. Bob and Dottie enjoyed their home in Afton, MO and traveled to Europe to visit Dottie’s extended family in the United Kingdom. He and Dottie later moved to St. Charles, and she preceded him in death in 2016.
Bob was a brick mason for nearly 40 years and was a respected member of Bricklayer’s Local #1, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed showing his family the many buildings he worked on around the St. Louis area, including several high-rise structures in downtown St. Louis.
Bob is survived by his Daughter Roberta Schuler (Tim) of St. Charles, son Micha “Mick” Crowley (Julie) of Columbia, MO, and stepdaughter Linda Woodard of Tulsa, OK. His oldest son, Scott Donald, preceded him in death in 1981. He was also Grandpa to Christopher Cruse (Amanda) of Des Moines, IA, Sydney Schuler (Tyler Shlottach) of Troy, MO, Austinn Schuler of St. Charles, as well as Riane Decker (Alex), Spenser Crowley, and Maxwell Crowley of Columbia, MO. Bob was blessed with 6 great grandchildren, Olivia and Mason Cruse, Lochlan Nuckolls, Silas, Meredeth, and Xander Decker, and Wyatt Schlottach.
He was a member of Bethany Peace United Church of Christ in Spanish Lake, and St. John’s United Church of Christ in St. Charles.
A private graveside service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Friday, October 11, 2024. No other services are planned at this time.
