Robert E. Goodman

October 15, 1929 — January 23, 2008

Robert E. Goodman, 78, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away in Peoria, Arizona on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Born in Granite City, Illinois, he came to Sun City 10 years ago from Kansas City, Missouri. He is survived by two children: Diane (Keith) Koval and Richard (Cindy) Goodman, two stepchildren, Nancy Hairston and Peggy (Jim) Carson; six grandchildren: Jarrod Goodman, Brooke (Ben) Cole, Rachael (Thomas) Carrillo, Ronald (Joy) Hairston, Gregory Hairston, Brian (Leah) Hairston, Kyle Koval and eight great grandchildren. He was succeeded in death by his wife, Marcella in April, 2008. He was preceded in death by two step-sons, Robert and Ronald Favez and sister, Betty Lou Hiles. He worked as an electrician on his way to becoming a mechanical engineer. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the President's Commendation. Shortly after returning home, he married and raised two children with his first wife, Ruth. He subsequently met and married Marcella, his wife of 32 years. While in Sun City, he was involved with the Stephen's Ministry through his church, ministering to the elderly shut-ins. He was involved with character development for boys, working with church groups and becoming a scout leader for the Boy Scouts, to which his son belonged. This provided an opportunity to stay involved with his own son's activities, as well as helping those boys that didn't have a father in the home. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008, 2:00 PM at St. Charles Memorial Gardens with a Memorial Gathering following at the Baue Funeral and Memorial Center, 3950 West Clay, St. Charles, Missouri, from 2:30-4:30 PM.
