Memorials may be made to FISH of St. Charles County. Robert "Bob" Eckhoff, Sr., of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Mathilde "Bunny" Eckhoff; loving father of David Eckhoff (Alice), Robert H. Eckhoff, Jr., and Cindy Eckhoff Hobbs. Cherished Grandfather of Patrick Hobbs, Alysia Eckhoff, and Erin Perkins. Dear brother of the late Richard C. Eckhoff, uncle of Deborah Rowe (Art), great-uncle of Brendan and David Rowe. After serving in the Army during World War II, Mr. Eckhoff began his 40 year career in the shoe business, starting as an office boy. In 1951 they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas and spent the next 14 years there. The family then returned to St. Louis where he became Vice President and Chief of Design for Brauer Brothers Shoe Company. After retirement, he pursued many activities including volunteering at FISH of St. Charles County for 22 years. He was also an avid wood carver and many of his birds were on display at stores throughout St. Charles. Next to spending time with his family, his other love was his music. As an accomplished jazz piano player he started playing professionally as long ago as World War II and continued throughout his life still playing "gigs" up until a few months before his death.
