Robert Louis Laible, 89, of Florissant, Missouri, a devoted father and grandfather, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 2
nd, 2017, surrounded by his loving daughter and granddaughters in his home of over 60 years.
Robert grew up in St Louis and attended a local technical school. His first job was producing welding tips for the War effort in the early ‘40’s. He was drafted in the Army in 1952. He was assigned to Korea but eventually served in Germany for two years. On returning home he met Julia Smugala and he knew at first sight he was going to marry her. He obtained a job as a sheet metal worker and eventually worked his way to Director of Engineering at the Essmueller Company.
Robert was a skilled craftsman and there was nothing he could not fix or build. He was the go to Mr. Fix-It man for the whole family. He enjoyed painting, model building, airplanes, laughing, casino slots, and most of all bass fishing. When his granddaughters needed him most he was always there, lovingly and with kind words.
Robert grew old gracefully and never complained. His smile and voice will be missed by all who knew him.
“Big Bob” all those lunker Bass you “caught” that never quite made into the boat await you in Heaven!
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Julia, his son Mathew, and his brother George. He is survived by his two sons, Kenneth and Michael Laible, their spouses Jenny and Ava, his daughter, Kim Beckerman, her spouse Steve, and his grandchildren, Paige (Bill), Haley, Meghan, Julia, Zachary, and Dylan and one great grandchild, Griffin.
