Robert W. “Bob” Pilger, of Montgomery City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at the age of 60. Loving husband of Cecily Pilger; beloved son of Robert and the late Darlene Pilger; devoted father of Amanda Gallagher, Joshua (KC) Pilger, Jeremy Pilger, and Alicia Pilger; cherished Paw Paw of Whyett Pilger, Alyssa Gallagher, Gage Pilger, Tyler Gallagher, Bentley Huzar, Mila Huzar, and the late Mariyah Gallagher; dearest brother of Ramona Nielsen; and dear uncle of Elliott Gray. Bob is also survived by his cherished canine companions, Rocky, a Boxer; Colt, a Pit Bull; Bailey, a Maltipoo, and they will miss him dearly.
Bob proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Marines from 1978 to 1980. He then met his wife while they were both working at the Onion Plant in St. Charles, and after just two months he proposed. They were married October 8, 1983, and to show his wife how much he enjoyed the outdoors, he took her to the family property to go hunting for their honeymoon!
Bob was a wonderful family man, and made sure he called his family everyday between 4:00 – 6:00 AM , just to say “Good Morning!” He liked taking the kids to the country to do target practice, and Cuivre River to spend time together. He also loved getting together with his father every week, just to catch up on old times. He always looked forward to seeing his grandbabies, and liked hearing his youngest granddaughter do her growl; he got a big kick out of that and it really made him laugh.
As an avid outdoorsman, Bob loved to go fishing just about anywhere, especially at Busch Wildlife, where he could drive around to take in the scenery. He tended to his garden regularly, and even though he didn't produce much, he truly looked forward to watching it grow. He liked to maintain his yard and took pride in mowing his lawn every week. Another one of Bob’s outdoor pleasures was being able to attend the St. Peter’s Picnic every year with his family.
Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and would play jokes on his family and friends, just to show them how much he loved them! On his serious side, he was a survivalist and made sure he planned well, their house was always well stocked.
Bob was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
