Robert Michael Witte of O’Fallon, MO, passed away at the age of 67 on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. Beloved husband of 43 wonderful years to Jane Witte (nee Abbott); cherished son of the late Raymond and Marie Witte; loving father of Marie Witte and Paul Witte; treasured brother of Marilyn (David) Fitzgerald and the late John (Martha) Witte.
Bob is also survived by many loving sisters-and-brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
It is difficult to sum up a person’s life in a few short paragraphs.
Bob was friendly; he never met a stranger and talked to people wherever he went. He was funny and made us laugh over the simplest things. He was a known story-teller; even a story retold was entertaining.
He was dependable, kind, generous; in short, he was our go-to person and always quick to lend a helping hand. These may sound like only words, but they paint Bob’s personality perfectly. Language alone is inadequate to describe his greatness as a husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Bob was a great cook and could barbeque perfectly even in the dark. He dabbled in photography most of his life, and in his younger years, he loved camping and fishing.
His career as a teacher at the Fort Zumwalt School district spanned thirty years before his 2007 retirement. His students and coworkers loved him, even when they could not appreciate his unique humor. He was a bit of a character.
Bob’s life was well lived and full of joy. For us who shared it, we are grateful for his wit and wisdom. He will be remembered lovingly and dearly missed.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s honor to
St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
