Rolla Coleman

March 30, 1923 — April 22, 2012

Coleman, Rolla, of Chesterfield, Missouri (formerly of St. Charles), died on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the age of 89. Rolla was the loving husband of Eva Massie; beloved son of the late Walter and Bertha Coleman; devoted father of Sandy (Joe) Schon, Daryl (Cathy) Coleman, Robert (Amy) Coleman, and Allen (Vickie) Coleman; also survived by his first wife of 30 years, Viola Spinner; cherished grandfather of Becky, Mike, Monica, Kyle, Jessica, Anna, and Amy; treasured great-grandfather of Ethan; dear brother of Bobbie Merrell; beloved uncle of Sue, Tom, Bruce, John, Nancy, and many other nieces and nephews; and loving step-father of Ana Maria, Susan, Charlie, George, and Bill. He is preceded in death by his second wife, Yolanda Coleman; and his siblings, Opel, Floyd, Hazel, Larry, and Babe. Rolla was raised from the age of 11 by his Uncle Arthur and his Aunt Helen, having lost both of his parents. They raised Rolla as a Christian with a strong faith in God and Jesus Christ as his savior. Rolla expressed his feelings with the written word. Every birthday and at Christmas his children would receive a heart felt poem expressing his love for them and his pride in them. Rolla was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan who took his children to countless ball games when they were growing up. He was a pioneer in the computer science industry in the early 60's as one of the first software developers, eventually managing the IT department for Barry Wehmiller. Rolla was a member of Harvester Baptist Church of St. Charles, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
