Roy E. Burgett, of Wentzville, Missouri, beloved husband and father, who loved God, his family, and his country, passed away early Thursday morning, May 13, 2021, at the age of 79. Roy was born in Robertsdale, Alabama, and his family moved to Pensacola, Florida where he lived most of his life. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Colorado for some R & R. They then moved to Texas and Missouri to be close to their grandchildren. However, as a native of Alabama, Roy always valued his southern roots.
Roy was a loving husband of 37 years to Barbara Burgett; beloved son of the late Fred and LeeAnn Burgett; devoted father of Jennifer (Jorge) Zapata; cherished grandfather of Kai Zapata, Dawson Zapata, Samuel Zapata, and late infant grandson, Carter Elliott Zapata; dear brother of Fred Howard (Hilda) Burgett, Kenneth (Margaret) Burgett, Carolyn (Buck) Buchanan, Larry (Debbie) Burgett, Claude Daniel (Cheryl) Burgett, Marilyn (Kevin) St. Onge, Gary (the late Debbie) Burgett, and Tammy (the late Ken) Brown.
Roy proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He retired after more than 20 years with the U.S. Government as a Production Controller.
Roy was a true family man, and he was a wonderful dad who loved his daughter very much. He loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed staying in contact with them. He looked forward to family get togethers, barbecues, holidays, and camping. He always had so much fun playing tennis with the O’Neals.
As an outdoorsman, Roy loved working in the yard and tending to his rose garden. He also had a wonderful vegetable garden that he and his grandsons worked in, and he grew some amazing eggplants, sugar snap peas, and corn. He enjoyed fishing and made trips to Lake Panasoffkeea every year with his family.
Roy was an all-around fun guy. He really liked old western movies, especially John Wayne. He looked forward to watching wrestling on TV. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially football. In his quiet time, he liked to read and enjoyed Louis L'Amour and Clive Cussler novels.
Roy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
