Ruth Potter McGraw (98) died Thursday, April 24, 2008 in St. Louis, MO, after a brief illness. Born on June 17, 1909, she lived most of her life in Wellsville and Bolivar, NY. After graduation from Alfred University Ruth taught math in Bolivar. She married Jack E. McGraw and eventually taught at Wellsville High School, retiring in 1971. In 1992, Ruth and Jack moved to Kingsport, TN to be near their son Gary McGraw and his family. Jack died in 1993. Ruth moved in 2001 to the St. Louis area to be near daughter Gaye. She lived independently until her final hospitalization three weeks prior to her death. Ruth is survived by two children, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Daughter Gaye Gambell-Peterson and her husband Jerry Peterson live in Maryland Heights, MO; grandchildren are Wendy Sood, Jay Gambell and Bryan Gambell. Great-grandchildren are Tanner Stewart, Ryder Stewart, Kayliani Sood, Danielle Grapes and Will Gambell. Son Gary McGraw lives in Charleston, SC; grandchildren are Gary McGraw, Jr., Walter McGraw and Christopher McGraw. Great-grandchildren are Jack and Eli McGraw, Simone and Wylie McGraw. Ruth's mind was sharp, her heart large, her spirit generous, her curiosity without bounds. She would be grateful for any memorial donation made to any organization the giver deems worthwhile.
