Known to her friends and extended family as “Ruthie,” Marion Ruthe Stricker (nee West) was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on July 12, 2020.
Born in Philadelphia, PA August 29, 1926 to Charles F. West (1887-1932) and Marion Ruth West (nee Hoyer, 1890-1950), Ruthie graduated from Charles E. Ellis College for Girls in Newtown Square, PA, in 1943.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Norman A. Stricker (1922-1994), who she married in 1946 in St. Louis. Of her many accomplishments, Ruthie’s greatest was creating the family she always dreamed of having: Eric (Terri) Stricker, Renee (Dennis) Oelschlaeger, Kevin (Linda) Stricker, Tamara (Kevin) Dorey, Kurt Stricker, and the late Nadja Stricker (1954-1955). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
In life, she valued her family, her friends and her independence. She was a shining example of inner strength, radiant in her zest for life, and grounded in humility. Ruthie will be greatly missed by the many who admired and loved her, but her spirit remains alive in each of us who know her.
In her Bible, 3 John 1:4 is underlined in red. It reads, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Ruthie’s life was a testimony of abiding and unconditional love, most especially for her Lord Jesus Christ.
Memorial contributions in Ruthie’s name may be made to the
St. Louis Society for the Blind.
